How are the tariffs and other political issues impacting your ability to gain?
SumoSized:
I mean they were recently paused so it hasn't impacted my financial situation too much. But assuming the come back in full force eventually it'll make certain foods a lot harder to get here in the US, since a lot of fruits just can't be grown here. And even if in a later version of the tariff plan food is exempted, everything else will still increase in price so I'll have less money to spend on overeating. Across the board tariffs are a bad idea, anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is a lunatic

Shit like this makes me think of the Maduro diet. For those not in the know, back in 2010, Venezuelans were having severe food shortages under President Maduro due to his gross incompetence.
I'm not saying it will be that bad for us, but I foresee many feedees and gainers slimming down - no Ozempic needed.

God I hope not, but who knows with this president. For all we know in a years time the tariffs will be the least of our problems

I should give up internet life. It screws up my mental health and makes me want to throw away my phone. I am going to try to read more books and watch more shows. All this doom and gloom makes me suicidal.

No because most food products come from America. We’re like the world’s biggest exporter of food.
And most importers are American anyways.
I don’t support Trump at all but I supported the tariffs because it made billionaires who got Trump elected lose money, 500 billion dollars to be exact, and just shows anyone who’s paying attention who’s truly in power. I want representation in my government not lobbyists and tech billionaires.

Trump capitulated to his donors the second the market crashed which just shows what will happen in 90s days. The market isn’t real it’s based on speculation it was super volitle because no one was sure what was happening. We didn’t even import goods with the tariff, it was a week.

there’s enough demand in the American market any importer will pay reluctantly at a loss, the importer could hike prices all they want it would only increase the tax.
there are going to be people who say import taxes are justifying price increases merely to make profit it’s economical.

I mean, kudos to you if you can take the hit, but that's not a lot of people. And RIP to the small businesses that are failing specifically because of the tariffs.
We also lack the infrastructure to manufacture all the overseas products here. It will take years, over a decade in some cases. If he wanted to create more American jobs by forcing businesses to operate over here, this is the worst way to do it.
The wealthy will always find ways to stay wealthy. They will probably be fine in the long term concerning the tariffs. But the average American? Not so much.

When a firm buys goods from an importer they pay the importer and the importer pays a tax on the income that is what a tariff is.
If an importer were to increase the cost of their goods it would just make them pay more income tax.
I’m not saying I’m not hurt by it I’m saying the price of goods isn’t effected purely out of economic principle.
The tariffs never went into effect. Except for the ones on China. The stock market crashed because Trump was using tariffs as a tool of statecraft and the market was uncertain. Ie people weren’t buying and making deals because they were like “hmm let’s wait the grass might be greener”

I had a comment all written out then my phone deleted it when I fat fingered a button.
Basically a robust tariff regime is what’s needed to compete and secure our sovereignty as a nation, the problem is Trump pays lip service to that but he doesn’t mean it and uses tariffs as a form of statecraft to get countries to do what he wants.
It might not matter who makes a toliet seat or a t shirt, but what happens when we no longer have the ability to produce warships or tanks? Or the ability to manufacture arms? Or computer chips.
